The Alps are a sensitive ecosystem that has to be protected from pollutant emissions and climate change. However continued increase of freight traffic volumes leads to environmental problems. These trends reinforce the need to review existing infrastructure and develop innovative models to protect the Alpine Space. In addition, EUSALP sets the aim to strengthen ecological transport and to establish more efficient freight transport corridors.

AlpInnoCT tackles this challenge by raising efficiency and productivity of combined transport thus increasing its attractiveness. Improving competitiveness and efficiency transport solutions, application of industry know-how coupled with a holistic and transnational optimization between all involved transport chain actors in combined transport should led to improved utilisation of combined transport as low-carbon transport method.

 The project will:

  • Create a common understanding and knowledge pool of production processes for Combined Transport stakeholders to develop innovative, more flexible and market oriented Combined Transport services in Alpine Space.
  • Carry out an in-depth analysis of the combined transport processes in two pilots: optimisation of key activities of all transport chain participants including transport means, schedules, route profiles, infrastructure and transport volumes.
  • Carry out an analysis of trends in industrial processes as a basis for development of innovative, flexible and market-oriented services of combined transport in the Alpine region.
  • Develop a model for an optimized Combined Transport process implementing knowhow deriving from industrial production processes to be transferred to the combined transport process in order to increase efficiency and decrease CO2 emissions.
  • Create a knowledge base of combined transport and production processes for different target groups and users.
  • Conduct evaluation of specific measures for combined transport developed within the model for an optimized Combined Transport process.

AlpinnoCT enhances cooperation among combined transport stakeholders and increases availability of combined transport as low-carbon means of transport.
